Crime in Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles has been experiencing significant decline in crime since the mid-1990s, and hit a record low in 2007, with about 400 homicides. Crimes peaked in 1992 with about 27,000 recorded acts of violence of which almost 1,200 were homicides and over 245,00 recorded property crimes. The year before, Los Angeles recorded a little over a thousand murders. Homicides in the city are distributed unevenly with nearly 50 persent of them occurring near the four stations of the South Bureau of the LAPD whick covers South Los Angeles and the Harbor area.
