The jail is normally operated by a staff of 13 including 1 jail commander, 1 sergeant, 3 corporals and 8 correctional officers.

The jail can house up to 92 inmates.

An inmate can serve up to a year in the facility for each felony conviction.

The county seat is Colusa.

The original state legislative act of 1850 named the county Colusi, and often in newspapers was spelled Coluse.

The county's name was derived from a Native American tribe living on the west side of the Sacramento River.

The name was changed to Colusa shortly after that.
