The Custody Services Bureau is to provide for the safety of the community by the secure detention of people arrested and accused of crimes within the jurisdiction of Humboldt County.
The Bureau is the largest bureau in the Sheriff's Office with 131 full time employees, including 116 Correctional Officers. The Custody Services Bureau’s primary function is the care and custody of sentenced and non-sentenced inmates incarcerated in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility (HCCF).
Humboldt County is widely known for its high potency strains of marijuana, which are grown outdoors and increasingly indoors.
Large scale "grows" are prosecuted, while others are able to grow under county guidelines for medicinal use under the auspices of California Proposition 215.
There are two methods to bail a person out of the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
#1- Cash Bail may be posted by anyone, including the inmate. Cash, traveler's checks, money orders and certified checks in the exact amount of bail. Personal and business checks are not accepted.
#2- A bail bond executed by a licensed bail agent to bail a inmate out of the facility.

If a someone is being released on his/her own recognizance, they will be released soon after the booking process is finished.
But, intoxicated persons must stay in jail until they can safely care for themselves.
Inmates who have been released by the court are processed as fast as possible. Inmates can be released as soon as the jail receives and completes the paperwork.
People being released after having served a sentence are generally released between 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
